On March 24, 2012, at 8:07 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting in the south alley of 3500 Island Avenue. Officers arrived and found 14-year-old Richard Carrillo suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics arrived to treat the young man, but he died at the scene.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the victim was sitting on the tailgate of a parked pick-up truck, talking with friends, when a dark colored SUV drove toward them and stopped. Two Hispanic males got out of the SUV and began shooting toward Carrillo and his friends. Carrillo tried to flee on foot, but was struck by the gunfire. The two suspects, described in their 20’s, got back into the SUV and drove west-bound from the scene.
The San Diego Police Department and Crime Stoppers are seeking information about this case.
